If you have used Community Grains’ TRUE whole grain flour then you probably know…it’s really hard to go back to AP white or even your average “whole wheat” flour because quite frankly, it just doesn’t compare. As Gertrude Stein once said, there’s no there there. No flavor, no texture, no life, no ooomph!
If that’s the case, we’ve got just the thing for those half-used bags of white flour collecting dust in your pantry: salt dough ornaments! ‘Tis the season, y’all. Get crafty!
Here’s the recipe:
Preheat oven to 250°
1 cup old white flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water
Knead together until pliable, 5-10 minutes.
Dough can be rolled out (about 1/4″ thick) & cut into fun shape using cookie cutters, as seen above, or shaped into figures. Use a toothpick to create a hole for hanging.
Bake for 2 hours on an ungreased cookie sheet.
For extra credit use tempera paint & glitter to decorate. For posterity spray with clear polyurethane on both sides.
Use ribbon or yarn to hang.
Then decorate your tree or hanukkah bush, curl up by a roaring fire with some egg nog & admire your work.
Could it get much easier?
